Bonnie Simpson, Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician, and Bonnie McGuire, Hospital Volunteer were recently awarded Alleghany Regional Hospitals 2006 Frist Humanitarian Award as Employee and Volunteer of the Year respectively. The Frist Humanitarian Award, is one of the highest honors an employee or volunteer can earn within HCA, the parent company of Alleghany Regional Hospital. The Frist Humanitarian Awards were created to recognize employees and volunteers at HCA facilities who demonstrate extraordinary concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and their community. The Humanitarian Awards are given annually in recognition of the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., a founder of Hospital Corporation of America, the predecessor company of HCA.
According to her nominations, Bonnie Simpson is a loyal friend to the ARH staff and a true asset to our hospital. Another person wrote that Bonnie is a very giving person, always thinking of others. She is usually the first person to bring in a card for someone or a box to collect items for someone in need. She takes wonderful care of her patients, always going the extra mile.
For the 2006 Frist Humanitarian Award for a hospital volunteer, Bonnie McGuires nomination perfectly sums up why he is deserving of this award, Bonnie greets every patient, visitor and fellow coworker with a smile. She is willing to step up to the plate and help wherever needed. Bonnie has served as a member of the volunteer auxiliary for 20 years and has held various positions on the Auxiliary Board including president for much of that time. In addition to her local volunteer work at ARH, Bonnie is an active member with the Virginia Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries and Volunteers, holding several offices on their governing board. In addition to these duties, Bonnie is active in her church and a local Ruritan Club.
The Frist Humanitarian Award was created in 1971 to honor outstanding individuals for their humanitarian and volunteer activities. Named in honor of Dr. Thomas F. Frist Sr. (1910 1998), this award recognizes individuals whose daily dedication and care giving epitomize the highest standards of quality and personal commitment.
